Rolling Readers Space Coast, Inc.
Rolling Readers, a non-profit literacy program, started on
the Space Coast in 1997.  We are part of a grassroots
campaign to develop children’s desire to be lifelong
readers by providing them with high-impact program
materials, books and volunteer services.  We have grown
to include hundreds of volunteers who are now reading to
and working with over 6,000 children (prekindergarten-
fifth grades) in Brevard County Title I elementary schools.

Volunteers in the
Read Aloud program read weekly to
children, inspiring their minds, touching imaginations,
developing language skills, and providing a positive
impact on their lives. 30 minutes is all is takes.

We sponsor a unique
unique
Reading Skills program aimed
aimed                               at reluctant second grade
grade                                readers. A Reading Skills
Team, made up of four team members, is assigned to a
school. Each member is given a specific day of the week
for their service. The volunteer goes into the school one
hour each week, working one-on-one with four second
grade students (15-20 minutes with each child.) Using a
leveled series of books, the volunteer helps each child
expand reading skills, enrich vocabulary, and improve
comprehension and fluency.

The Grade-level Reading Intervention
Program  (G.R.I.P.)
targets 8/9 year old children and
involves innovative, weekly small group sessions
conducted in a workshop format.

Volunteers use learning
activities that are hands-on
and high interest to the
students , reinforcing and
improving reading skills.
Fingerprinting is required.

Mission Statement

"I feel very blessed to have found
Rolling Readers.
It's great being a part of a

Testimonials
" I love visiting with and reading
with the first graders. Sometimes
I am unsure who is having more
fun, them or me!"

"Observing the difference in self
concept of these students as
they become aware of their
success and growth in reading is
amazing."

" As you well know, "the
village" it
takes to accomplish
success with our children.
The parts that are in place
that afford each child small
group instruction, one on one,
literacy rich environment and
"just plain caring about each
of them" leads to academic
success.
Rolling Readers plays an
essential and critical piece to
our student success. I thank
you and thank each of you for
making a difference in the
lives of our children at DR.
W.J. Creel Elementary. We
try to prioritize our
relationship with Rolling
Readers as we believe that
you change lives and families
for the betterment of our
community and  America.
Just like the tale of the
Starfish- each one matters.

WE BELIEVE every
child should have
access to books,
magazines,
newspapers,
computers, e-readers
and text on phones.
Whatever way you
read, you will need to
figure out what the
fact are or what the
story tells you. No
matter how and where
you get access to
ideas, you will need
the skills of reading to
understand yourself
and your world.

WE BELIEVE that in
the 21st century, the
ability to read is
necessary not only to
succeed but to
survive -for the ability
to understand
information and the
power of stories is the
key to a life of
purpose and meaning.
